Ensoniq Mirage DSK-8 Loading Issue

Hey all,
I picked up a Mirage DSK-8 for cheap in hopes of fixing it, but I’m having difficulty pinpointing the the particular issue I’m having.

When inserting the diskette the machine will loading properly for a few seconds, then hang;
I tried using a Gotek, and it will do the same, hanging at 11. Turning on the machine without a disk preloaded will show the “No Diskette” screen as per usual. Having a disk preloaded will cause the will cause the same issues, but the top two lights on the eight-segment display to light up as long as the machine is turned on. The farthest I’ve gotten is checking the service manual and ruling out the power supply as the issue.

If anyone has any guidance it would be greatly appreciated!

You say “hang”, it is my understanding that once the disk starts loading the display will go out, after that there should be drive activity as it loads the OS, the filter are tuned and then the OS starts to load the first sounds from the disk after it has flashed something up on the display. Its not a quick process by any means so make sure you give it a hot minute.

You may want to check that the OS on disk is not corrupt by making a fresh disk.
