Ensoniq VFX Audio issue

Hi,

I have VFX ( non-SD) that works completely fine but after 5 -10 minutes the audio starts cutting in and out and eventually is gone. It is NOT being distorted, almost being intermittently muted. Tried to set the effects to dry thinking it might be the FX processor but it didn’t help ?

Any idea or advises to find the root cause or at least narrow down possible ones? I have fairly advanced electronic skills and can do in depth tests. Just need some guidance .

Thanks

its a failed part or bad solder joint that opens from the keyboard warming up.

first thing is to open it up and look for the obvious culprits, failed tantalum cap, failed electrolytic cap, poor solder on an IC or transistor.

It ended up working properly ftee left on for extended hours. Now good. I checked and think there was some debris inside which i think was shorting some pins/lines.

The suggestion above regarding something failing due to heat is very likely given the timing of your symptoms. As for finding it, do a search for “using freeze spray for diagnosing electronics” and read up. It’s a very easy, safe, and inexpensive technique for isolating bad joints and components. Usual disclaimer about opening up live electronics. Watch where you probe with fingers and metal tools. Even if you are not able to do the soldering yourself, you’ll probably save some cash if you are able to hand it to someone and say, “It started working again with X component frozen with spray”.

Found the issue, unexpected. The pedal. I have the original Ensoniq pedal with TS jack(not TRS) . Found out the port accepts a another midel with two switches. Went to the master setting and had to deactivate FS 1 and keep FS on sustain.

Seems like it was activating to actions and the same time some how.

I suspected it because the keyboard stayed in for extended hours and played well but started acting up after connecting the pedal.
