I found a 1979 Yamaha CP30 electric piano. I cannot open the cover because one of the screws that goes through the bottom of the cabinet, the ‘X’ in the top of the screw is stripped. I don’t have to open the cover but I want to blow out any dust and recondition the rig. I can probably drill into the screws with a reverse thread bit or grab it with vise grips but if the screw doesn’t want to easily turn or I damage it, I am in deeper trouble! Can someone suggest how to get a stripped screw from the bottom of a 1979 Yamaha CP30 electric piano and where can I get another?
The screw extractor is the first thing I’d try.
If this doesn’t work, drill the head of the screw away so only the shaft of the screw remains.
Remove the cover and try to get some pliers around the thread to remove.
There should be replacement screws on Syntaur, but if not, a visit to the local hardware store should find the part you need.
Awesome idea, brudda! I am gonna use a dremel to slot the head of the screw and try a flat head driver before I take the entire head off. I don’t want to risk damaging the faux leather skin.
I slotted the head with a dremel and removed the screw with a flat type driver. A left-handed smoker would lay their cigarettes down on a key. Why would you treat your lover like that? I’ve spilled beer on my lovers but never burned them. I guess love is different, in different dungeons.
Awesome work!
Yea, those keys will need replacing too. Spares are available I think.
Then it’s time for a good clean!
