My DW-8000 mysteriously stopped working. Powers on but no audio. I also noticed the data slider not working either. I hear a thump when I power on and also hear a click. Wondering if this is just the muting relay that has gone bad. Would this explain the data slider not working though? Any ideas greatly appreciated. I’m original owner of this synth and has been flawless operation since I got in high school.
Get hold of the service manual and check the voltage rails from the power supply.
Thank you for responding! That was first thing I did and voltages all checked out.
I don’t see any commonality between the Value Slider and the Muting Circuit. These must be two different faults.
However, the signals pass through connectors that would be a good idea to check.
Thank you so much for the research and advice! I’m def gonna hold off replacing the muting relay now. Was nervous about doing that anyway. One thing I’m wondering about, I recently got a new 2 prong power cord off amazon and now wondering if maybe it was bad and could have fried something? I did check voltages on power supply board. And fuse is ok as well. Thanks again!
Though the muting relay is a usual suspect I’d check with the scope or an audio-probe whether there is really audio coming from the voices, Pin 7 of IC9 on the voice board KLM-662 should provide the Audiosignal.
Thank you for this! I know this thread is going to help someone even if I can’t fix mine.
Check the ripple in the power supply rails. Sometimes the +12 and -12 can be within spec and there is 1 or 2 volts of AC
I can’t say that I had a similar problem, but in general - when I received a parcel of used EX8000 - it also did not start due to a faulty OS. I had to restart the OS via SysEx transfer. And after that - the synthesizer entered the working mode.
you can try to restart it this way “factory reset”
PS: Click can switch DW mode - in tape recording mode! are you control it? can you see “TAPE” at 7-seg.display? or standard info view? likesee below pic.
