Hi,
I have stumbled upon a curious example of an e6400 for sale that I’m VERY seriously considering purchasing. It has the additional 8 analog output card, 128mb sound ROM, effects (std), and 128 channel card installed (typical e6400 “Classic" only has 64). It appears this unit has been upgraded at some point in it’s life, though it is running EOS v3.00b. and I am hoping that it has 2mb+ of CPU ROM, so I can upgrade to EOS v4.xx. I have contacted the seller, but have not heard back yet.
In any case, owning this sampler has been a dream of mine since 1999… so even if it lacks the 2mb CPU ROM I will likely buy it anyway. I have seen that there was a gentleman in Germany selling ROM upgrade SIMMs with the latest EOS version preinstalled, but it appears that he is no longer making them (no more parts available and little interest). I am hoping that some of you synth wizards may have a lead on one of these (or an OEM Emu upgrade SIMM from a dead unit).
Anyone with better E4 knowledge care to shed some light on this curious unit? Am I incorrect in my assumptions that this unit has been modified? I found a post from last year about upgrading an E4k, which did provide some valuable info, but not relevant to my specific circumstances.
I will report back with what the seller says, but I’m leaning heavily towards buying it regardless, and either simply working within the earlier EOS version, or continue keeping feelers out for the upgrade SIMM on eBay and the like, or maybe a broken Ultra model that it can be harvested from.
Thanks in advance for any info, advice, or leads on parts!
