Ensoniq KT88 Battery Replacement

HI all! I was given an Ensoniq KT88 that “wasn’t working”, was told that “one day it just didn’t go”. Took it home, plugged it in and got the “Main Battery Low - See Manual” message. I ordered a battery but have read that replacing it takes out all the sounds, etc. Is there a way to upload what I need? I have no disks, etc. Just want to replace the battery and use presets, but it sounds as though that won’t happen after replacement! Any thoughts, help?

Hey There SlowDown,

I can help a little. I have the same issue with a Korg “X-3” low battery & replaced it only to find all of the A & B banks were gone and the Combo banks as well. The GM banks are there still, however there are are few issues with some of the sounds. My Floppy drive is Dead as well. On the Korg Web Site I downloaded the Sound files for the “X-3”, you should be able to locate yours and download them as well.

Here comes the “RUB”. In my case I did and most likely you will too. You need to get a USB to MIDI cable and a Program that will download Sysex files. Here’s The Korg Support Center https://www.korg.com/us/support/

Here’s another link to a Korg Forum:http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=759807&sid=f6a25cb3180c636a47ab8c3cc7c1ca52

I had no luck getting it to work. I will try again. If you figure it out please let me know, and how you made out.

Good Luck

there is also option 2 which is also good which is to record the digital signal as a mp3 file to play back to the machine. I replaced my battery on my esq-1 all the sounds remained in tact. a back up plan doesn’t hurt i have the midi to usb cable by fore the led lights up once you are connected. good luck
