Ensoniq TS-10 Aftertouch

Hello,
I recently purchased an Ensoniq TS-10 for a decent price. I can’t seem to get the aftertouch to work at all. The instrument fires up and calibrates fine each time it starts up, and all of the notes work, but I can’t get the aftertouch to work.
Any suggestions for common problems or places to start? I’ve heard that it can be easy to mess up the key calibration by tearing into the unit.

Thanks

yes, to get to the Keybed is a huge issue. by the way all the metal inside is as sharp as a razor blade, i usually Kapton those edges when i work on the units to avoid cuts.

Aftertouch, which is Poly-AT, on the Ensoniq is propitiatory and based on induction. There is a keybed with a separate microprocessor, lots of NPN/PNP transitors and inductive coils (double sided) with metal tabs under each ‘Fatar made’ Key - contact less.

Is there absolutely ‘zero’ after-touch or just very low after touch values?

Most of the issues with the keybed is the connectors used between the two keybed modules. It will break the solder joint -and if I remember, takes the trace with it. Thesoniq.com repairs them and usually does an exchange (you send the old one, he sends a repaired one.) you can try to repair it yourself but if the trace is broken, it’s much harder to repair -you have to pull apart the keybed to get access to the broken trace. And the issue could be on both keybeds This break it quite common - there is a fair amount of stress on the way the ribbon cable is attached. Any long term thermal cycling will push it to the limit.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out

Absolutely no after touch. I have shelved it for the last couple of months. May finally break in and just take a look around. Thanks a bunch for the info. I’ll post updates if relevant.
