Kaossilator KO-1 touchpad only plays right half

Touching the pad on the left is registering on the right.

Initially, it only played the farthest right edge, but after cleaning pad with a q-tip more of the middle started working.

Is there anything I can do more specifically to diagnose and/or repair the touchpad?

Looks like the ribbon cable to the touchpad got damaged, has black bubbles running along some of the wiring.

Is it worth trying to salvage or replace this ribbon cable?
