I am trying to find a replacement battery which is a Sanyo CADNICA Model 4 N-270AA
This is a 4.8V 270 mAh battery.

That does not sound like the correct battery. The DDD-1 uses a 3V lithium battery:

I double-checked the service manual, just to be sure.

The Sanyo CADNICA Model 4 N-270AA sure is the correct battery if you have the DDD1 equipped with the sampling option card. This battery is used for holding the memory of the samples you create.
This battery is located in the battery compartment underneath the DDD1 (the small lid in the corner).
The 3V lithium battery Sam mentioned above is for the rest of the machines memory (patterns songs etc). This battery is soldered onto the main PCB.
