Korg MS2000r Powering, no programs.
Hi, I’ve pulled my Korg out of storage, it’s in great condition but now upon powering it up it won’t start up. It powers up ok but there’s no sound, no programs to switch through etc
I suspect an internal board or DSP.
Anyone know this synth’s internals or had this issue?
So the text comes up in the screen but it doesn’t make sound? Most likely the common DSP issue. I have exactly that job awaiting me. To confirm you put it in test mode
Hold “Mode Sequencer ON/OFF” + “3” on startup if you get “MCU to DSP error” it will confirm it. Fix is to replace the DSP chip is “XC56362PV100” but definitely not a job for a beginner. Part is getting harder to find but if you manage it I recommend taking it to a place that do console or phone repairs not a hard job with the right tools.
Was the storage facility nice and dry? If not, I’d be checking the internals to see if damp has worked it’s way inside and corroded something on the board.
Just confirming the unit is not receiving MIDI signal or outputting audio.
Board seems to be in pretty good condition. I can’t see any broken wires or leakage from any capacitors or similar.
Can anyone point out where the DSP chip is on these boards if it’s pictured?
No the text doesn’t come up at all but the display seems to be working!?
Well you also have a power supply issue just like this one did. You need to solve that first. The culprits are tiny little components the MOSFET marked F1 and switching controller IC15 next to it either or both those is faulty needs changing. Also the fuse marked FU1 is also likely to be gone. You need to fix that before the DSP IC17which is the square chip in the middle of the board. You might get lucky and the DSP is fine after you fix the power. But you got nothing without the main 3.3v power. The service manual with schematic is available with a google search.
