Good day to everyone. I got Kurzveil k2000s, and it has a serious bug: when i’m trying to enter disc menu (“disc” button) machine freezes - no sound, no response from buttons and keys. So, i need to reboot after this it works again.
I thought, that it was dead tact button or more complex program bug, but when i insert floppy disc, it works ok and boots programs and sounds from it.
I tried to connect scsi2sd unit (when machine off of course): it boots up and freezes.
I think it’s a scsi problem, may be diode or fuse. I experienced such problem on Akai s3000, when scsi diod protector was blown.
I am new to this machine, and need an advice, what to check?
Thank u for your input!
I have the exact same issue with my Kurzweil K2000RS. Please keep us up to speed on what you find out.
Thanks,
Stephen
So, I have details to share. The issue is NOT an engine board issue. It’s something happening on the power board. I have a feeling that it is PSU related. I need to trace the power to the rail.
The symptom would indicate that the SCSI bus is NOT getting enough power to wake the drive and allow it to be selected. This in turn locks the device because it is hung expecting to see available SCSI drives.
More later.
The only material that I would consider useful to share for the Kurzweil K2x power supply is in that old correspondence of yahoo group:
In addition, if your drive consumes more current at startup than the K2000 can provide, you can replace the 7812 scsi 12-volt IC3 stabilizer in the power supply with the 78T12. The 78T12 will provide 50% more current. You can also strengthen the tracks of the 12-volt scsi board with a wire under the board (factory modification on all K2500RS), since they were slightly smaller. Please note that the K2500R uses the K2000R power supply
additionally, there is material on a Russian-language website that talks about problematic or defective SCSI boards from Kurzweil K2x (try to translate using google translate)
this is due to the upgrade of the SCSI_2_SD board too!
and if you register on that website there you will get access to very informative illustrations accompanying these notes.
