Looking at the service manuals they’re always recommending upgrading the programmable logic chips to the latest version. However I can’t find any anywhere. I have the SMCTLV8 bin file and a chip on the way (EPM7032LC44-15T) but I can’t find any concrete details on exactly which programmer and adapter to use. It’s a PLCC44 format device.
I’ve done some extensive searching already, so more after someone that has done it before.
You will need a PLCC44 to 40 pin adapter, a TL866 programmer and for Windows (I’m assuming) XGPro. I’ve had great success with this combo for Kurzweil updates. Not knocking Kurzweil but you will very rarely get a response for the K2500/K2500R
Short story, I had a K2500 in for repair where battery leakage partially destroyed the keybed PCB, I tried to get in touch as I had about 6 PC3K7 (even working in a registered Kurzweil service centre) and I had no such luck with them sourcing one. Eventually I did get in touch with another tech buddy who had noticed that a still in production at the time Kawaii keybed would fit with no modification and had one in stock… so in short … Kurzweil in all probability won’t help you unless you have something newer.
I fixed it in the end. The RAM controller chip had definitely lost its program or part of it. It wouldn’t see the sample RAM and the base ROM diagnostic tests would fail.
I used ATMEL’s POF2JED converter and programmed some ATF1502AS chips using a DIY programmer which is not longer for sale sadly (the creator posted me one for free).
I used all the defaults for POF2JED. I’ve yet to do some full tests, but the diagnostics all pass now.
