Kurzweil K2700 problem with unwanted sound changes during use

Problem with K2700, searching for advice.
Love the keyboard, I have 2, one to gig with and the other at home. One of the two developed a problem that was ‘repaired’ under warranty. Now is out of warranty and problem recurred.

While playing, random real-time adjustments to the patch occur, as evidenced by changes to the sound of the patch, which are also reflected in the display window. All of the changes are as if I was making real-time adjustments to the sliders or the knobs above them located to the left of the display, but I am not touching them. So the physical ‘shock’ (and I would say I am an average player, not unusually heavy in touch) of me playing the keyboard is causing something to send message changes to the current sound. It is as if I adjusted the reverb, or attack release, or whatever, while playing the instrument. Seems that any of the sliders or knobs are involved, so it is not the particular slider or knob that is malfunctioning. This will now happen multiple times with every song and renders the unit useless, the changes to the sound are often dramatic. It seems random as to which slider or knob is allegedly adjusted. So something is ‘shorting’ either in a ribbon cable or the slider/knob panel of the unit randomly, and only related to the shock of playing the board. I can also thump the keyboard case below the slider panel and get the same thing to happen.

Out of warranty, I am tempted to open it up and reset all of the ribbon cables, but I thought I would post this here for advice.

Thanks.

I am having the exact same issue and thought the same about resetting ribbon cables. I am also out of warranty so I am going to open it up and see if it helps. I also love the keyboard but it is essentially useless right now

GJ,

I ended up opening up the keyboard and reseating all the ribbon cables on the circuit board by the effects faders and knobs. I did see one chip on the board that looked like it may have overheated but after putting it back together it seems to be fixed. Can’t say that it is fixed for good but it has been a few weeks and the problem has gone away
