Generally these sort of coil springs with long legs are pretty easy to adjust tension. A tiny crimp/bend to the leg should help, but tiny. It needs to have tension through the whole range or it will return to an indeterminate position.
Are you sure it’s spring tension though, and not just desperately in need of cleaning and regreasing?
