Hi everyone,
I have been a very satisfied owner and user of A Yamaha XS Rack for a few years in France. But more than one year ago, while using it, I noticed crackles in the audio analog outputs. That turned into distortion rapidly and then total loud hum making it impossible to connect to the mixing desk.
The SPDIF output is still working fine. So I can still use the synth !
I took the synth to a Yamaha authorized repair shop. My diagnosis was correct. The D/A converters had to be changed. It seems their tag is : X 9099A00 or XW029A00. ???
The only issue is that they have not been available anywhere in the world for a long time !!! The Motif XS is not an antique, yet !
Has anyone met the same breakdown problem and found a solution ?
It seems the software Yamaha use for labelling spare part has been changed recently, and issues are related to that…
If someone could provide info on these matter and let me know when these spare parts will become available again in Europe and the US, I would be very grateful.
Thanks a lot, best regards,
Mike
These are AK4393VF-E2 [Asahi Kasei Microdevices/AKM] and are obsolete from the manufacturer but still available from various places.
Are you 100% certain it’s the DAC at fault and not one of the caps around the recovery OpAmps post the DAC ?!? Is the crackle also audible on the assignable channels? Does the crackle disappear when master volume is down?
Hello Werner,
Thanks for your very kind and ultrafast answer.
Actually, I’m sure of nothing…
Yes, the crackle was audible on the assignable channel although less loud. No change when volume was down. Right now, no sound whatsoever on the analog outputs
I don’t know what one of the caps around the recovery OpAmpspost DAC means… Is it the volume control ?
The electronic schematics you enclosed is, I suppose, the inside of a Motif XS, isn’t it ? Because the identification of the DAC that you gave and that I can see is not the same as the ones Yamaha Music France gave me… Well, well, well… I must say I don’t trust them much since it seems they don’t have or couldn’t access the schematics of the synth !..
Thanks again, best regards
Mike
