Oberheim Matrix 1000 resonance noise

Hello. I have a Matrix 1000 with the updated firmware 1.20. When I increase resonance past 20% there is a “noise”/drone sound like it’s coming from an oscillator. When resonance is past 60% the noise is not audible. Also there is no noise when there is no resonance. I have recently changed battery but problem still persists. Please advice me what to do next, thanks.

Hello,
Does this noise occur on all six voices, or just one ?

Have you done a factory reset subsequent to changing the ROM? That is always necessary in my experience. I’ve upgraded 3 of them. One particular troublesome one wouldn’t come back from the reset until I removed every socketed chip and cleaned the legs and sprayed the sockets with deoxit including the ROM and patch memory chips. Be gentle and don’t drop them. After the reset, your first 200 patches will be nuked and you’ll need to reinstall them from sysex.

There is also an issue with older rev boards. 1.2 requires the latest board revision. A trace was added, and if yours doesn’t have it and it was never jumped with wire, it won’t work right. If your board has this diode, D999 then it’s the latest revision.

Other than these things, verify your power at each regulator. They can go bad easily because these things run hot. Avoid putting something right over it in a rack.

Hello and thanks for the response. It occurs on 4 voices , I think voice 3,4,5,6.

It already has the trace and works perfectly and smoothly with midi. I have the latest firmware 1.21. Battery is new.
