Hello, I have recently purchased a used Fantom 8 EX. It was shipped via courier. Upon opening the box, the keyboard showed multiple cracks in the right end cap. It was clearly caused by poor packaging and shipping. Other than a cosmetic damage, the keyboard appears to properly work.
At this point I have several options including returning the keyboard to the seller. Should I choose to replace the part, how hard is to replace an end cap? What if I bring the keyboard to a Roland Service centre, what kind of charges could I expect to pay to get it fixed? I live in the Miami area.
The charges for service on this or any type of repair would be $95 per hour. It can take 1 to 1.5 hours nominally. I would say from experience if you feel you do not have the skills to do it yourself don’t or anyone else except a knowledgeable Roland technician to avoid causing more issues which will cause you more costs in the end.
Another note is that this damage should be to checked for other damage before ordering anything. This will require that it be initially inspected by opening up the unit to the point that you are sure that is all that is needed.
Thanks for the response. I agree with with you. I have found a synth technician nearby which besides changing the end cap, will also conduct a full check on the keyboard to ensure everything works properly, Taking things in my own hands is not really the answer.
