Roland FP-4 dead keys

Hi Everyone
Roland FP-4 about 17 or so dead keys
Have tried to clean circuit board with contact cleaner to no avail. Any advice on repairing keys?

Under the keys there are rubber pads, they are easy to remove and can be a pain to put back. That said, have you cleaned the pads and contacts under them? If not please do no clean them with contact cleaner, instead use alcohol and a clean q-tip.

while you are there you may as well check for any broken key parts, I have serviced a few and on every single one have found broken keys and “debris” in the keybed. (By debris I mean hairgrips, money, pet fur, stickers, pasta etc)

Have cleaned the pads and the contact points on the circuit board. Still not working, which indicates to me an issue with the circuit board itself? Don’t have a multimeter so I can’t test the traces.

Ah, My next suggestion would have been to check traces and diodes on those boards. One test you can try is bridge the suspect contacts using a known good rubber pad.

You can buy a multimeter for $10, it’ll be a useful tool for many things after you’ve repaired your keyboard!
Check the traces as I repaired one a while ago where the copper had corroded and bubbled up. Scraping away the lacquer revealed a flaky copper track that didn’t conduct.
I had to solder wires across a dozen broken traces, but it worked fine after the repair.
