Roland FP-5 Some Keys Too Sensitive

Roland FP-5 – Extrmely sensitive keys

• Model & revision/OS: FP-5
• Symptoms (what changed, when): Many keys in the middle section of the keyboard are extremely sensitive and are often double the volume of the rest.
• Tests already done (voltages, parts replaced): I’ve disassembled the keyboard and cleaned it like new. The problem still exists. No broken keys, no wear and tear on the physical aspects of the keyboard. I assume the middle board needs to be replaced, but I can’t find a replacement in stock anywhere. I need a 71909034 middle board. Any pointers would be great!

Can you “rotate” the rubber contact strips, they are in sets of 12 per strip, and take one of the far left and one of the far right ones and put them in the middle and the middle ones to the outside.

The volume/velocity is given by the two carbon contacts inside each of the rubber domes that make contact with the contacts on the key contact boards one after the other and the CPU measures the time. The shorter the time between the two the louder the volume.

The key contact board can’t do that.

By “rotating” the rubber contact strips you can eliminate where the problem is.

Additionally - I don’t remember if the rubber contact strips are keyed or not. - ie can be installed upside down - which also would make the volume/velocity very different.

Defo do what the dinosaur said.

Rubber contact strips can be bought to replace.

Sounds like the two key sensors aren’t being hit correctly and the keyboard thinks you’re hammering the keys.
