Will Ensoniq KT-76 play without a main battery?

I haven’t used my Ensoniq KT-76 in at least seven years. I was recently asked to lend a weighted action keyboard to a visitor to the area for a one-night presentation. I got it out today and the “Main Battery Very Low” message was illuminated. I’m familiar with how to change the battery, and I ordered a special upgrade setup so that I don’t have to solder anymore. My question is: If the user only needs the internal ROM or int patches, does it really need the battery? Is the battery only necessary to keep presets and internal recording alive? Thanks for your help.
