Hey there, I’ve recently acquired a Roland XP50 dirt cheap, from what I was told there is an issue with the LCD no display but lights up no led no sound. So from the forums I’ve realized the problem with these are caps and leaking. So upon opening up finally and ordering caps, I realized that these caps are quite bad most are leaking a smelly fishy stink. So away I go with all the de-soldering and bearing the stench, overall 20 10uf caps, a few odd ones here and there. Look for damaged traces, a few caps pads have lifted traced where they go and soldered away. Here’s the problem with all that replacement still nothing meaning still LCD isn’t functioning nothing, I feel it’s the main board as the rest of the other boards aren’t logical boards but just extensions. The main board might have so much corrosion underneath the chips it’s hard to verify each one near the caps without de-soldering a ton of them. Everyone’s opinion I don’t want to spend a ton of time without a board, I’m willing to part out or sell the whole synth as all the keys are in perfect condition and the the power supply is working correctly.
Hi!
I have a cherished Roland XP50 as well. Mine seems absolutely fine except that the main board or mother board needs replacing, for several (most?) of the patches come through corrupted.
I’ve been trying to get my beloved instrument working again for several years, but with no success.

Hey Ann I’ve replied to your post, I’m trying to track down the same MB as you are and no luck. There seems to be several revisions of these boards I have the M2 revision so it might be the one prone to these issues with the capacitors. I’ve mentioned how I replaced all the capacitors and cleaned up all the gunk looked for damaged traces still not functioning. At this point I’m not sure if I’ll waste time on it since I got it for $80 and was hoping I could get it running. My option now is to sell parts or the whole thing just to recoup my loss.
Hi Gary
A fellow tried to repair the board sometime ago. He is very experienced at what he does and it was an extensive attempt. So I definitely feel your pain~
I truly love my XP50, and, it happened to be very sentimental to me, given the way it had been gifted.
