Yamaha FC7 expression pedal/M08 synth question

I have been to Yamaha Tech support, other forums, Sweetwater where I bought the pedal, Youtube (nothing on expression pedal set up), 5 music stores in the area. No one seems able to help me set up the Yamaha FC7 expression pedal in the Yamaha M08 Work Station keyboard. The following I explained to Yamaha tech support laying out my problem.
Three times they gave me instructions for a Motif 88 keyboard, I suspect it is A.I. So, in the following is my problem. I think it is operator error on my part but I am not up on keyboards being primarily a guitar player. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As per manual instructions (download) page 65, I called up an organ voice to edit the controller , then proceeded as instructed, Voice, Edit, F4, I changed the controller from MW(mod wheel) to the FC1(11) pedal (expression pedal). It controlled the modulation but still acted as a volume control pedal. When you backed off the pedal to back off the modulation you lost the volume and could no longer hear the keyboard? There must be some way to shut the volume function off when using it to control modulation etc. One other problem I noticed is the pedal introduced the modulation at full “depth”. It did not swell like it would do with the mod wheel.

As far as I am concerned, I am a tech not a player, what you are experiencing seems correct for what you are doing.

The FC7 is actually two separate functions in one pedal, hence the stereo (TRS) jack plug.

Therefore, assuming you want to assign the ModWheel to the foot controller as controller 1, I think you need to assign controller 1 to MW (mod wheel) but then you also have to de-assign controller 2 to NOT do anything else it still will be a volume and/or expression function, therefore volume drop on pedal release (or controllers can be switched around 2 = MW and 1 = not assigned)

Have attached the FC7 connector - seems RV (Volume) is by default at the RING which I think will be controller 1 by default,
