Yamaha Motif ES7 Keybed clanky noise

Hi guys

I’m based in Swindon in Wiltshire in The UK

I have a Yamaha Motif ES7, been my regular gigging keyboard since I bought it end of 2006, all the buttons and sliders still work, but some of the keys are noisy and “clanky” sounding, really annoying! Sounds like they are almost hitting metal, all the keys still work though

My repair guy says I need a new “Keybed assembly” the problem is you cannot buy them anymore! Do I really need one? what actual parts would I need to fix the issue ?

The ES still sounds great and does what I need it to do, or is getting an XF Model any better? I have a Montage 8 but really need a synth action keyboard

See if this video covers your issue.

This is a wide spread complaint. The keyboard mechanism needs disassembly, cleaning, and re-greased with a silicone grease that is non-hygroscopic, (doesn’t absorb water)

BUT, if the keyboard is has heavy wear, this may not work, or may only slightly improve it.

I’m not aware of anyone doing complete keyboard replacement kits, but its sorely needed.
