Fault tags: pick the best symptom (and request new ones)

Use 1–2 Fault tags to describe the visible symptom of your issue. (You should still add your Brand and Model tags.)

Choose symptoms, not guesses.
Good: no-power, distorted-audio
Avoid: bad-cap (root-cause guesses belong in the post body)

How to add Fault tags

  1. Add your Brand and Model tags first.

  2. Add one or two Fault tags from the lists below.

  3. Don’t see a good match? Request a new Fault tag using the template at the bottom of this post.

How to request a new Fault tag (or suggest an edit)

Reply below using this template:

Proposed tag: <lowercase-hyphenated> (e.g., noisy-relay)
Category: <choose one above> (e.g., Audio Path)
Synonyms/near-duplicates: <optional> (e.g., relay-noise)
Suggested description: <one line help text>

We review weekly. If approved, we’ll add the tag and may merge/alias near-duplicates to keep things tidy.

Tagging best practices

  • Keep it to 1–2 Fault tags. More isn’t better; pick the clearest symptoms.

  • Don’t duplicate meaning. Use either no-audio or low-output, not both.

  • Use psu for power-supply rails/regulators; use no-power if it won’t turn on at all.

  • Pitch things: if it wanders with warm-up, use tuning-drift; if it jumps randomly, use pitch-instability.

  • Front panel: scratchy knobs = noisy-pot; jumpy values = bad-encoder.
